A Canadian known more for accomplishments other than military service. While this photograph of Sir Hugh Montagu Allan shows him during his war time service (first as President of the Pension Board in London and later as claims officer with the Canadian Corps in the field), his face may have been familiar to those who used the currency issued by his bank.

And for those who follow hockey (in other words Canadians), the Allan Cup is named for him.

However, while LCol Allan may not have been in the trenches during the war, his family suffered great losses - his son was killed while serving with the RNAS and two daughters were lost in the sinking of the Lusitania.
