Default Australian Slouch Hat

Would someone be able to tell me the age of this Australian slouch hat and badge?

Slouch hats are usually marked on the inner sweat band with a maker's name and usually a date. Can't tell the age of yours from this photo but I can tell you that the badge is a fantasy badge and NOT military. We have had a thread on these before. They were made up by the disposals stores to help sell surplus slouch hats, in the 1980s I think. It is against the law to wear (but not to own) a genuine army rising sun badge because you might be impersonating a member of the defence force.

Hi, just to follow on from Kinsley's post, the hat is probably a 50's or 60's period hat but what gives the badge away is the map of Australia, no genuine Rising Sun badge ever had a map of Australia, there was a short lived version with a star on it.

Regards

Phil.

I did once work with a bloke who was adamant he got issued one of these at Kapooka when stocks of official Rising Sun badges ran out. Mind you, he also said he was involved in "black ops" later in his career. LOL
