Kimberley Regiment - single screw post fastening
I'm sure that there is a simple explanation, but I have wondered for a long time now, why certain Kimberley Regiment cap badges have been altered by the removal of the original lugs and the fitting of a central screw fastening. I have two , one is Owen 201 ( 1899-1939) and the other is Owen 204 ( 1940- ) .
It has been suggested that these were for fitting to a pith helmet . Equally they could be for a Band Cross Belt. Does anyone know ? Thanks Mike |

I have one as well, but mine is on a chromed badge. I can't imagine it would be for a cross belt because the screw-post would dig into whatever was behind it, totally impractical. Maybe for a feather bonnet for the band? The pith-helmet option seems most likely though.
