Hello to all.
My interest is mainly in the British military units that were present in South Africa during the time of the colonial frontier wars. I have dug many artifacts confirming where these units where stationed, and in some cases proving the literature to actually be incorrect. My collection focuses mainly on buttons and shako plates of these units.

Bits of British Foreign Legion Shako plates & British German Legion button
From all the research I have done, these units never served in SA.
Members were repatriated to the then Cape colony, at the end of the Crimean war as they did not want to return to their own countries. Some of these members were taken up in other units or returned to civilian life.
Stutterheim (a small town in the area is named for Baron Richard Carl Gustav Ludwig Wilhelm Julius von Stutterheim, a major-general in the British Army as the head of the British German Legion)
The location where these artifacts where found has been confirmed as a base for the 67, 75 & 85 regiments of foot for the period ±1845 - 1860
I will post more images of the other confirmed units in the area. I have confirmed at least 25 different regiments being active in the area in the 1800's.
