DCLI cap badge
Thanks Simon for your reply, looking at the badge first hand it has all the hallmarks of a Victorian/early Edwardian other ranks cap badge, the quality is IMO superb and could easily be mistaken for a silver/plated officers badge.
I was looking for this very example when this turned up in a small collection of badges and buttons so I was very happy to have it. The badge backing is the one thing I am not sure about, I have only ever seen the red cloth, but this one is quite unusual, one to keep I think. Rob |

Double badge backing on a DCLI cap badge
Last night I tried to do a bit of catch up on my reading and found the excellent "British Army Headdress 1939 to 1945" by Jon Mills, truly a great piece of work for badge collectors and what was on page 36 under the heading "The General Service cap"?
An other ranks cap, Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry with the red and green badge backing, literally the answer was right under my nose . . ! This badge with the red and green backing was obviously worn post 1943 when the the General Service cap came into use, maybe before on the Field Service Cap, but why have I not encountered one in all the years I have been collecting, are they so scarce? This book was The Military Historical Society Special Number for 2021 and well worth joining the society and getting a copy. Thanks for your replies.
