Default Wiltshire ACF

Can anyone help me please on the cloth insignia worn by the Wiltshire ACF during the lifetime of Battledress?

I am not concerned about trade/prize badges only titles and any formation badges. For example during WW2 I am assuming black on green titles and what else?

Ther are a couple of examples of cloth badges worn by Wiltshire ACF in Rawlings book on OTC,CCF,Cadet and ACF badges if you can get hold of a copy ( unfortunatly no dates of wear given )

An example of one of the badges illustrated ( -Yellow moon, crossed rakes and stonehenge printed on blue rectange ) sold by Bosleys- Postal aution 19/7/2000 lot 720.

The second badge in Rawlings is a bird on a shield with horizontal lines behind with the word Wiltshire at the top.

Sorry I cannot help further. I know how difficult it is to get hold of information on badges worn by some Liverpool Cadet units.

P.B.

The second badge you mention is the current version from memory.

The printed badge you mention is interesting. if you have a scanner I would be interested to see it.

If anyone has a set of black on green titles I would be interested.

The only colours for CADET FORCE that I have come across are black on khaki, white on black and white on scarlet, this was changed before 1947 to ARMY CADET FORCE in white on Scarlet, until 1947 when it changed to A.C.F. Around 1953 the white on scarlet A.C.F. was only to be worn by the Infantry and the various colours for all others were introduced.

In the late 1980s there was a concerted effort to standardise all ACF curved titles as yellow ACF on scarlet (based, I was led to believe, on the colours of Mons OCS) and discard all arm-specific colour ACF titles. This went down like the proverbial. I gather some sectors caved, others didn't. My lads certainly did not want to remove their Gunner-coloured ones.

Fougasse,

Picture of front of the Rawlings book attached. It was a private publication illustrated with black and white line drawings ( 3101 entries 660 illustrations ) in card covers.

First Edition ( 50 copies ) 1989,second edition 1994.

I dont think the book was ever available from book sellers.

The book is described as "An identifiction and Checklist" It is still a useful book for identifying cadet insignia

Peter

Peter,

Thank you, probably hard to get a hold of.

Default Wiltshire ACF- Keith Rawlings book

For the information of all members, in March this year I wrote to Keith Rawlings and he still had copies of the 2001 booklet available. It is a very good checklist with 2457 items idetified, but the sketched drawings detract from it as a true reference work.

Might I suggest members write to him at 81 Norton Rd, Bournemouth, BH9 2PZ (Tel 01202 776390). Please include an A5 size SAE plus a cheque for £15 per copy, payable to Michael's Night Shelter.

Regards, Stephen
