Thanks Roger.
Can't help you with value I'm afraid, but there's nothing wrong with that badge, mate; and nice that you have it with the other matching items too. Matti has a b/m example of this badge which he is a little ambivalent about, but which I really like... but then again, what do I know! Thanks for posting it, perhaps a more informed member can assist you with price. Cheers, Peter. |

Hi Guys,
Sorry to be so late in getting to this but I have been away. I basically have three grades of identifying the availablity of badges with: A = Common B = Scarce C = Rare While thgere is a wide range between some scare and rare badge within their own group the classification by and large does seem to hold up pretty much OK. This is a scarce Kent and County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) badge as it is pre 1966 and probably early 1960's. Therefore was definitely issued to the Kent and County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) which completed service in 1967. The badge design was also issued post 1967 to 'C' Squadron of The Royal Yeomanry but these badges will have a later mark on them. While both badges are the same to look at they are different in their use of unit so to speak. However, the 'C' Squadron badge of The Royal Yeomanry is really just a common item. Hope this makes sense as it is an important consideration to make when collecting the correct unit badge when the era of manufacture is factored in. Regards Chris |

KCLY - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
I can only vouch for the top left. It is A/A Gaunt London 1961, issued to me personally. I had to hand in my cherished and burnished CLY at the amalgamation. Here is a further badge I picked up at the War and Peace show. I have shot it obliquely to illustrate the polished highlights. It would appear to be the same as the centre bottom in the first image. Crisp in my view and possibly officer issue ...or a fake if you know better. PeterA Last edited by PeterA; 17-03-11 at 08:11 PM. |

The badges I have came from here.
After yet more reorganisation during the late 1960’s a new Signal Regiment was formed (71st Signal Regiment) and the name of the London and Kent Regiment was preserved in one of its squadrons, 265 (London and Kent) Squadron primarily to perform a regimental headquarters function, but eventually as a fully operational Signal Squadron. In 1974 the new signals regiment adopted the title 71st (Yeomanry) Signal Regiment and the Squadron's title changed to 265 (Kent and Sharpshooters Yeomanry) Signal Squadron. In 1985 the squadron's title changed once more and became 265 (Kent and County of London Yeomanry) Signal Squadron. Then two years later a new squadron was formed from its RHQ elements and titled Headquarters (Kent and County of London Yeomanry) Squadron. The two squadrons remained as such until further reorganisation in 2006 when 265 (Kent and County of London Yeomanry) Signal Squadron was disbanded and the majority of its personnel absorbed into the former Headquarters Squadron to form the new 265 (Kent and County of London Yeomanry) Support Squadron (Sharpshooters), effectively reverting to its combined RHQ and signals role prior to the formation of Headquarters Squadron in 1987. |
