2 CMR
Cap and collar badges to 2nd Can Mtd Rifles. However, the designs differ and the cb has the earlier 'flat-topped' crown. Would this badge be Boer War period?
Both are Tiptaft marked GTB |

Hi GTB, the 2 CMR badges are CEF. There is some suggestion they were worn post war for a period of time. Tiptaft only made badges for the CEF, not for the Canadian militia.

My understanding re the 4 CMR is that the 4 CMRR badge was the first issue and the second issue was the 4 CMR. The CMR pattern is more difficult to find.

Would these COTC badges have association with the CEF?

Some COTC contingents were recruiting for the CEF. Their badges can be found with wartime dates on the reverse.

Did a bit more checking. Both badges are later authorization. The U of A badge is the 1937 issue, and the Bishop's College badge is the pattern authorized in 1926.

Thanks, I suppose I'll have to remove from the CEF lineup. Pity.
I have tentatively captioned the attached collar as 87th Inf Bn (Canadian Grenadier Gds) . I don't suppose it would be 245th Bn Montreal Grenadiers? GTB |

It is attributed to the 245th.

Description of button: large size (25mm), OSD bronze (Officer quality spunback), featuring a KC between CAN and ADA, above a statant grizzly bear and at bottom numeral '101' between 2 maple leaves. Backmark J.R. GAUNT & SON Ltd. MADE IN ENGd. Apparently not 101st CEF or am I missing something here? GTB |
