Finally I see a job I can do very well in the military. How do you sign up for NAPS? I am guessing that stands for Not Awake, Please Silence!!! Yep, lots of training and experience in naps!!!!

Seriously, that is some awesome collection!

The NAPS badge is Naval Auxiliary Patrol Service. The Home Guard unit of the New Zealand Navy. January 1942 to early 1944 and consisted of ratings. A total of 570 served. The badge was worn on the left cuff.

Hi Barry, and thank you for the info re the NAPS title. Being HG related would be something I'd want but if there were only 570 members then I am sure its a tough one to fins and not a cheap one!

So, guess I'll just have to settle for a nap!

Tips on how to take a nap in a living room chair.

1. Be old
2. Sit in a chair

Stay well,

Terry

A cracking BD blouse in the Day 10 photos. Is it a private purchase tailored example or a dyed Army blouse?

Thanks

Rich

Thanks for the positive comments.
The blouse is attributed to Lieutenant HG Taylor RNZNVR (A), was made by McLaren of Glasgow and was made in the style of an army BD blouse but this private purchase example has satin linings to the collar, belt and the pockets are made of satin as well. The blouse was made with shoulder straps sewn in and the naval rank boards have been sewn on top. So no not a dyed blouse.
The wearing of this style of blouse is early and predates the Officers Blue Working Dress.

The undress coat in day 9 belonged to the same person.

I hope this helps
Barry

Thanks Barry, I've seen these in many period photos but haven't seen a surviving example before. I often wonder how practical the rigid rank straps on a working dress jacket would have been when worn under the Mae West, parachute harness & finally the shoulder straps for a seat harness. And that's before you factor in the rubbing effect on the gilt lace and woollen edges of the boards themselves.

Rich

Default Australian Naval Auxiliary Patrol

Never seen the NAP patch before, nor was I aware that there was an NAP in New Zealand. Besides the attached, there is also an Australian petty officer cap badge, an NAP button, and a series of cloth rank insignia, all quite scarce.
They were all wide awake when the Japanese midget subs came into Sydney Harbour in 1942.

Hi Barry
In post #137, what do the letters 'R.S.A.' stand for on the Queen Carnival pennant?
Thanks, cheers,
Alex
