LRDG badge ex NZ
This one looks to me like a first type worn cast Egyptian made cap badge that has been roughly gold(ish) plated by an Egyptian jeweller and converted to a sweetheart badge, now missing the pin.
Note the black circled areas where plate has worn off. Images daylight, dusk light. Last edited by nzef1940; 12-07-21 at 09:08 AM. |

Sadly this badge is a fake.
These badges were manufactured in brass and silver by a collector in New Zealand (if you would like to know who send me a pm) a few years ago. The main tell-tale pointer is the integral cast hinge. Also the minor shrinkage and the poor finish. They occasionally turn up with the hinge filed-off and fitted with securing lugs. I have a couple of examples in my "Black" reference collection of fakes. Keith

That's much better. A nice early original badge.

Just to be sure, are these two fake as well?

For the purpose of clarity. The badge in post 1 is a fake. Badges in posts 3 & 4 appear to be original WWII period made examples.
