Something posted (for sale) a good while ago (from an auction dated: 06 Mar 2013 12:00 GMT) which I only stumbled across recently, and haven't (yet) seen elsewhere:

24TH LANCERS WAR RAISED CAVALRY REGIMENTAL SWEETHEART BROOCH. A FINE RARE
So no idea just how rare these actually are/were.
With the description there of "24th Lancers war raised cavalry Regimental Sweetheart Brooch. A fine rare unmarked example, Crowned crossed lances with silver “XXIV” on the intersection. The cap of the crown and upper halves of the pennants in red translucent enamel, the lower halves in white. Complete with pin fitting. VGC Height 40 mm Raised 30th December 1940, stood down 24th July 1944 and officially disbanded in June 1948."
A rather different design than the ones we are more used to though.
