Default Large Royal Marine KC Pattern Helmet Plate

"Please be aware that this item will be for sale, so if you object to providing information on items intended for sale please bear this in mind."

I cannot seem to find any information on this Large RM helmet plate? Shown next to the more common KC badge for comparison, can anyone please help, is it genuine and if so a period of wear and approximate value? I must admit it is the first one of this size I've encountered?

Best Regards

Andy

Andy,

All I can think is that its intended for wear on the blue cloth helmet post amalgamation rather than the white helmet with the smaller badge.

What I dont know is when the change from blue cloth to white came in?

regards

Simon,
thanks, I'm pretty sure it is post amalgamation if it is genuine (?). The RMLI has a Bugle Horn at 6 o'clock, so this one if pukka is probably (pure guesswork) early 1920's? I cannot find one amongst the RM related albums or in any of the books I have?

This is the helmet plate of the Royal Naval School of Music.
Bosleys say from 1903-1905
John Rawlinson states 1903-1912
There are a lot of copies on the market of this plate, which I believe yours is Andy, by the copper look and the letters of Per Mare Per Terram
Bosleys had one in their last auction which was unsold £150-£20

SHB,
many thanks, I have doubts about it's originality hence the ?'s in my original post, but the patina is quite nice and it does seems to have some age?

One for the "? Box"!

Andy

Agree with John (Stonehouse Boy). It's a copy of a RNSM Helmet plate, in the genuine versions the Per Mare Per Terram fills the circlet but in the copies there is a large gap either side of the lettering. I had one of these as a gap filler but gave it to Dave as a sacrifice to repair a genuine KC Helmet Plate that was missing the bottom rays.
