Default Hello All badge id help

Hi all

Hopefully you'll be able to give me an idea of what this badge relates to. I believe it is two crossed telescopes in gold under a gold crown. I don't know if it necessarily military as it was found in a family photo album with photos of a person believed to have been in the merchant navy.
Any ideas or tips greatly appreciated

Many thanks
Frank

I don't see an image in your query?

You really need to attach a photo of the item in question. Bit difficult to ID if you don't!

Dave.

I noticed the trunions after I'd posted the message. So artillery I guess? Any idea of the era?

Thanks for all your comments.

Your badge is a British military 1st Prize Gunnery badge, worn by every man in the Best Battery.

The Kings Crown indicates post 1902 and worn in gold bullion by the Regular Army until WW1 started.

The poor condition due to mothing has all but ruined it I am afraid.

regards

I, personally, think that the moth damage is not as bad as it could have been. Some say that it adds charm.

Especially if for sale on eBay (personally I prefer my militaria without teeth marks).
Nice badge if not for the moth though if it belonged to a family member I'd find the damage fairly unimportant.

It's for my father in law who found it while doing his family tree. I doubt he'd even have thought about selling it.

Thanks for all your helpful replies greatly appreciated. I will pass it on.

Probably someone with the surname Trayler from the Holbrook area of Essex. I don't think he's been looking long

Gents, this could also be a SMIG badge (Sgt Major Instructor Gunnery).

Potentially looks later than WW1 when it was initially phased out for use by O/R's.

Either possibility, its nice.

I would get it mounted on some black felt.

Thats incorrect. Its a Prize badge typical of all pre-1914 badges, the SMIG badge in bullion has a flaming grenade below. See khaki version below
