Unknown Naval Button
Hi all,
I posted this button up in the military button section but having had no luck getting an id thought I'd try in here. Presumed to be a British Victorian button my thinking was it has something to do with volunteer naval but someone in the previous post suggested V stands for Victualling perhaps? Any help would be appreciated and this will be sold at some point. Thanks, Phil |

Unknown Naval Button
Hi Phil
This is not any form of Royal Navy button. It is actually a button worn by the Victorian Naval Forces in the then colony of Victoria, Australia. Several of the Australian colonies had naval forces of varying sizes - but Victoria had the largest. A very nice find. I've got a few pieces from the colonial navies of Australia but they are hard to come by. PM me if you think of selling it. Pete |

And here's an example of a similar button. This ones from the collection of the National Maritime Museum.

Thanks for the info Pete, would never have guessed it was an Australian button! Normally with the buttons I'm selling I put them on eBay starting at 99p and see how they get on! I can't find another button online like this that's been sold so have no idea what it's worth really. If you fancy giving me an offer for it feel free to message me or you can wait till I put in on eBay and maybe win it for 99p.
