Lancers hallmarked silver
Hi All,
thoughts on this one on ebay please item number 293723711147. Is the hallmark ok ? I am slightly suspicous of the dealers other items ie his silver sweetheart badges as a lot of them have the same ' sterling ' stamp, but it may just be me being over cautious. Apologies for not posting the direct link to ebay item, some kind member did show me how to post the link, but I have lost the message ! Mark |

Mark,
Never heard of the seller, but looking at his items for sale it looks like a very nice collection of silver badges, mostly sweethearts but with an original 17th/21st Lancers badge amongst them. Repaired lug (apparantly) but wont be cheap. Good luck regards

Hi,
Hallmark is fine on the Lancers badge, no idea about if it's worth the price or not. Its not unusual the sterling mark, going by the pin fixings on the rear and the enamelling, they're all nice period pieces Gary |

Is this a fair guide to which a hallmarked collar to the 17th / 21st goes for? Cheers billy

40mm wide is big for a collar but small for a cap badge, maybe a fs cap badge?

A "fair price" is more or less what the final bid will bring. Can't justify the cost from my perspective however, particularly since it has a repaired lug.
The Motto is very popular among collectors; more so if hallmarked, but they are not rare. Most any hallmarked badge tends to fetch quite a bit. CB

Im with Griff although its always hard to tell a collar from a cap Motto without anything else to compare the size with, but definitely a good Gaunt marked Motto and if the seller says a cap motto Id accept that as he has several other cap Mottoes on sale.

.... its the large collar type. This was adopted, in the Cold War, as a side cap motto and later a Beret Motto for the officers
