Hello Mike, Yes, I would say it's definitely the same, but this is bigger than a collar badge , with no signs of a scroll having been broken off. I would say it's a cap rather than a collar. I see it mentions volunteer battalion..VB...but does it say to who ?

I may get shot down in flames but to my 'untrained' eye it definately looks like this badge has had parts removed.

When compared to the rear of another cap badge it looks like the original 'loops' and scroll have been "carefully" removed.

On closer inspection with the aid of a magnifying glass I think your right Mike....it could have been butchered for some unknown reason.....but at least it's not a mystery to me anymore. Thanks for your help in identifying it.

Have found at least 6 examples on line of Glenalmond Trinity College OTC/CCF badges and all of them have the scroll.

Dave.
Found a site about Scottish Police with a section about Perth City Police and it has a couple of interesting photos (near bottom of page).

Perth City Police

One shows the badge with scroll , another shows Deputy Chief Constable wearing badge without scroll (see photo). Was badge 'cut down' to fit hat ?

Well, short of digging the Dep. Ch. Const. up to ask him, I'd suspect that the badge he is wearing is in bullion wire. All the metal badges worn by the police appear to be complete with the scroll.

Where can I borrow a shovel ? Nah.... I have written this badge off as being damaged and broken, but I have learned what it is along the way. Thanks lads for all the input and helping me out, much appreciated as usual.
Kind regards, Jim.

I can also see that badge without the scroll , is different in the tail and feet to what I have here.
