Default Corps of Military Accountants

Hi,
A recent find two Corps of Military Accountants badges. I am assuming that they are OR’s Collars but from the limited reference material I have, I see that Officer badges also had two loops on the reverse. Could they Officer badges? The badges are not a true pair: one is slightly brighter than the other and looks gilt on the reverse. Also the tip of the crown on one points to the letter “A” and the other between letters “AR”. Size: 31mm x 25mm.

Any thoughts on the badges please most welcome.

Many thanks
Regards
Andrew

Default Corps of Military Accountants

The authority for insignia to be worn is reproduced:

10.06.20. ACI 365: Corps of Military Accountants- badges.
Cap badges and shoulder titles for the Corps of Military Accountants have been approved, and should be taken into wear by all soldiers who have been
a) Finally transferred into the corps
b) Enlisted direct into the corps
Demands should be put forward for supply of 2 sets of shoulder titles, and one cap badge per WO, NCO or man.

31.07.22. AO 266: Officers Dress- Bronze cap and collar badges introduced for officers of Corps of Military Accountants SD uniform.

I can find no authority for collar badges to be worn, other than by officers. This was not unexpected as collar badges were not authorised for wear by other ranks at this time.
Could the GM 'collar badges' actually be the OR cap badge?

The following authority was for the whole of the British Army:
28.02.24. ACI 129: Regimental buttons and badges.
Para. 4 (e) One set of regimental buttons and one set of regimental collar badges will be issued to all serving soldiers for wear with the improved pattern SD jacket referred to in sub-heading (d)…[each soldier would henceforth have one ‘improved pattern’ and a second ‘Service Dress’ jacket. Previously collar badges had not been worn and buttons were of ‘Universal pattern’.]

17.09.24. ACI 557: Permission granted for regimental buttons and collar badges issued for wear with the ‘improved pattern service dress jacket’, to be worn with the second service dress jacket in possession of ‘other ranks’ provided that no expense to the public was involved.

I hope this helps.
Stephen.
