Bronze badges your opinions
I have these two badges Northamptonshire and South Staffordshire bronze with lugs they both have makers plaques Firmin London and J R Gaunt London I feel that these are all officers badges could you please advise. There is also a Middlesex Regiment bronze on lugs with no makers mark also officers ?. I have also uploaded pictures of the Leinster brass economy on lugs for your opinion I am aware this is a very copied badge but this was purchased from a dealer.
So your comments on all badges would be appreciated. Many thanks, Colin. |

I think I would return the Leinster if I were you.

Hi Simon,
I was under the impression that collar badges were smaller than the cap badge, all of these badges are exactly the same size as the cap badge could you please enlighten me. Hi Frank, What is you reason for not liking the Leinster badge is it that it has lugs and not a slider ? There was a thread on this badge a wile back and I thought the plums were good and a good strike. Many thanks, Colin. |

Those particular OSD collar badges were of the same size as cap, from a Middlesex Regt point of view looking at the fronts of OSD cap and collar no difference only the rear fixings differ. The Leinster badge as an economy should only be with a slider as are all the infantry economy’s apart from one only that of the Royal Scots on lugs only. The Middlesex appears to have been buffed as most of the dark finish is gone from the obverse. The Leinster does look to be a fake economy badge. Normally OSD badges were cast or die cast and had a finish as appears on the Northants and S. Staffs.

No, it's more obvious than just the lugs, the material it is made from as well as the manufacture itself, it is supposed to be over a hundred years old, but, from your photographs, I would say it cannot be.
If you ended up paying a considerable amount for it, i,e. more than a few quid, I would simply return it and get your money back. |

Hi Gents,
I will get in touch with the seller and it was bought for a bit more than a few quid and guaranteed original, should have asked the forum before parting with the cash. I have had a few items from this dealer and have had no issues with them, on saying that I might have to have a second look at them. Again guys thanks for the expert advise as usual. Colin. |

Regards a Leinster 1916 economy badge should be a fairly basic badge for a “dealer “ to get correct, if you don’t mind me asking who was said dealer ? As there are good and not so good out there unfortunately . Gerard

Name and shame?
Does not always end well, in particular, if the dealer concerned is a member of this forum. |

Hi Gerard,
Will see if the dealer plays ball with the refund and are true to there promise before I name and shame. They do advertise badges as genuine and a full refund if unhappy so I feel it is fair to give them the chance. Will update shortly, Colin. |

If the dealer is a member of this forum then they can have no excuses for selling that badge as an original 1916 all GM issue. Plenty of info on here about 1916 GM issues, their general characteristics and particularly those of the Leinster Regiment.

Indeed, it does rather make it so much worse.
