Is this an Aux Women's Wing?
It is lusted as duch in Owen but is a lot smaller than a typical wing? I have never seen a picture of it in use. Didn't the women have the wing that was shaped like a regular cloth wing?

This wing was actually a cap badge. Have a look at the last article and photo here: http://saafww2pilots2.yolasite.com/s...d-insignia.php

Thanks for your replies. I wish Owen published addendums to his book! Now to look for a real wing!

This is the membership badge of the Women,s Aviation Association and was in use from 1939 right until the organization was absorbed into the Aeroclub of SA. It was used as a lapel pin and as a badge on the side of the pre-war WAA garrison cap.
The rare one has WAAF on, rather than WAA, and was used for a short period when they were mobilized for the war as the Women's Auxiliary Air Force, until their UDF pattern uniforms and insignia were introduced. |
