Default Bedfordshire Officer's Pagree badge

Hi all,

Here is Bedfordshire Officers pagree badge silver/gilt and enamel backing multi-piece badge. Saved from a display board but damaged with attaching nails and lugs removed. I went to email Dave to see about lots of repairs when I saw he was in hospital, trust all will be ok for him, top bloke).

It measures 59x59mm and was worn pre-1891 I believe but still checking on dates, regards Dean.

Dean,
not my area, but the quality does not look that great? The enamelling and the punched holes look a bit rough for a quality item such as this and the copper prongs a little flimsy and new in appearance? Do you think it is genuine?

Best regards

Andy

Hi Andy,

I must admit I now have my doubts on this one but was unsure that these were being copied. The finish at the front is not amazing I will freely admit for an officers badge from a quality of craftsmanship perspective but the disc to the rear etc look good and aged as does the enamel. The gilt is very shiny as is the finish of a number that came together. On balance as I have not handled a huge number of such items I posted it believing it was genuine but will now regard it as suspect.

My thanks Dean

Hi all,

Here is the Bedfordshire Officers that Dave has expertly repaired. This badge was part of a large ANZAC collection of 136 badges that was nailed to a board. Dave has repaired the nail holes and re-lugged the badge and has done a top job.

Regards Dean.

I would have to concur with Andy's comment on this one with regard to it not being of officers quality. I haven't got one officers badge that isn't very well made and finished (some of mine may be worn e.g. the QVC 15KOH) - even the ones I have which have no makers mark have excellent stamping at the front.
This may have the overall S/G/E finish, but of very poor - and probably unacceptable quality - for officers to wear.
Rgds, David

Thanks David,

I appreciate the guidance here - there were a couple in the collection which I had my doubts on and this one certainly now I can see is of a poorer quality than a number of Officers badges I have.

Regards Dean
