Green backed trade/qualification badges
I picked these up this morning largely because of the bottle green background to the badges. I know next to nothing about cloth badges and wondered about the significance of the green background, i.e. who would have worn these badges in this particularly shade of green? One of the badges was made by Stephen Simpson Ltd, London & Preston; another by Griscti's Embroiderers, Malta. Both badges with manufacturer's names have numbers stamped on the backs presumably stock numbers.
Thank you. |

Started to appear from 1964 following the introduction of Lovat Green uniforms, taking the place of BD.

The numbers on the back are 'VOCAB' numbers, which were used by the Royal Navy/Royal Marines before they used the NATO Stock Numbers.
The Royal Marine parawings in my collection have the numbers on a little tag which differentiates them from army para wings. The Royal Marines no longer wear trade badges on their Lovat green uniforms. Ian H |

Thank you for your informative replies; do you know the Royal Marines stopped wearing these badges on their Lovat green uniforms?
