Default 46 Royal Marine Commando, and others

These were also included in the lot I just acquired.

Based on titles from the Forum Gallery it appeared to me that the 46 Royal Marine Commando Titles are both Second World War. These were the Titles I was really after as they liberated Rots, France along with my principal collecting focus - Le Regiment de la Chaudière.

Not sure about the Parachute Regiment, Reconnaissance or Royal Artillery Titles.

All opinions welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

A former C/Sgt in 46 Commando RM, stated that the bottom shoulder title in the picture was never worn by 46 Commando RM.

I've had the same pair in my collection for years and they look period war time
titles. It looks like they were manufactured but the war ended before they were issued and 46 Commando RM was disbanded. Many of us bought them but it was only years later when a paper came out on Royal Marines Insignia
that a C/Sgt from that unit stated they were never worn. I've never seen a picture of those titles being worn.

I'm sure you're right John, I've never seen them worn in photographs, just cash tapes. But of course just because something wasn’t photographed it doesn’t necessarily mean it didn’t happen. I’ve never seen any in anything other than unissued condition though which also backs this up. A cut-down version appears on here, but I think some things on the site are not 100%:

I’d like to see the article you refer to some time if it’s shareable.

Cheers

Hi Guys,

Thanks so much for the information regarding the Titles!

The 46 Marine Title on the bottom was one that I guessed to be late war or early post war based upon the back and my experience with similar backs on Canadian Titles. The Reconnaissance Title also has this same backing.

There was a great discussion on the origins of these Canadian Titles with this back that we call 'Starch Back' or 'Glue Back' in the below thread:

Thanks again everyone for pitching in.

Mike
