PPCLI Coin
Here is a coin for the PPCLI 100 anniversary. Its very detailed, on the "1" is a very small pic of a CEF soldier throwing a grenade, a very nice coin.

That soldier throwing the grenade is taken from the Wollen painting of the Battle of Frezenberg, on May 8, 1915. The Regiments first battle, where they held the line at Bellewaarde Lake during the Second Battle of Ypres.

Is there any more to the story of the grenade thrower, it appears to be a German stick grenade.

"W.B.Wollen based this scene on men who fought at Frezenberg. The men at the top left throwing grenades are Ptes. J.J.McCormack and J.Kelly. The Machine-gunner is Cpl. C. Dover with Pte. L. Phillips to his right. The man to his right is Pt. G. Candy. Lt Hugh Niven is yelling with his hand to his mouth as Cpl.A.G.Pearson, at left, carries ammunition box. Wounded man sitting at bottom of trench is Sgt. John McDermott. Kelly and Dover died in Ypres action. McCormack and McDermott in 1916. Others lived through the war. Pearson would be commissioned from the ranks and command the Battalion at the end of the war. Niven would ultimately be promoted Lt-Col and command the regiment from 1932-1937."

Grenades
Some of the earliest British Grenades were also stick grenades.
