Default Gordon's VB badge

Hi All
Any opinions on this badge? It is not mine unfortunately so posting it for a friend. It has a JRG&S stamp on the rear of the belt and an SIL stamp on the back of the badge as well. It does test as sterling but he is concerned that it is odd to have a sterling ORs badge and also the odd SIL stamp.
Thanks, cheers,
Alex

Hi Alex

I call the strike you show the demonic stag and nearly every badge I've seen on eBay will be from this particular die - often listed by the usual suspect sellers.

It has a few obvious features for me that stand out. The very heavy frowning brow. The over emphasised cheeks below the eyes and the overly large button shaped eyes which all add to the stag's demonic look.

Other featues are the flat(ish) relief of the intricate end to the the belt. And I believe that it should be on three fixing lugs. Usually one just below the D, one below the B and the third behind the belt end.

The genuine ones I have come across all appear to have a softer less demonic countenance to the stag's face which I hope I can illustrate below.

Mark

More from the same or very similar 'demonic' die.

Hi All
Thanks for the replies, one for the melting pot then. That SIL stamp was the main reason for suspicion, so I'll let the owner know.
Cheers,
Alex
