They are all generic badges, not affiliated to any individual Fire Brigade.
The first may be the Fire Brigade Association cap badge, certainly not specific to Bootle. regards

These generic greande badges have been appearing on ebay over the years.
Each has a small Town crest on the ball, hence the ID of each. They bring a lot of money. regards

Simon,
Yes, it has the label "Bootle" underneath it but has on the ball a Norfolk Police collar badge! The genuine Bootle FB cap badge of the period was a brass wreath with the Bootle Arms in the centre. Dave. |

Dave,
I saw an Ashton under Lyne one on ebay a few weeks ago which was clearly a police collar badge on the grenade. I looked at many of the other similar ones he was selling and saw every one had identical wires/blades holding the coat of arms on and reached the conclusion that all had been 'adapted' to fit a grenade and were therefore a collectors fantasy creation. Having said that it brought over £200!!!! regards

Simon,
In fairness to the seller, he was probably unaware of what he was getting rid of. I don't know who "Hallam" was but he certainly didn't do his homework. An excellent example of how, many years down the line, these spurious items continue their cycle of deception. Dave. |

Dave,
The buyers seem also to be unaware of what they were buying. Sadly in 50 years all this will have been forgotton and they will then be regarded as genuine. regards

Simon,
Yes, you are spot on. A little research before pressing the "bid" button would pay dividends, alas failure to do so can be a very expensive business. Regards, Dave. |
