The badge appears to have been chromed at some point. The ex owner of it wore it in Italy and later retired to Durban. It was there that he gave it to me after a long conversation about the war and the fact that my late father was also a signaller in Italy, but with the British 8th Army.

Here is my 44 para BDE infantry beret with Stable belt the same colour was used by the Recces.
the colour is more of a plumb rather than maroon.
