Default 55TH IRISH CANADIAN OFFICERS

Hi

Just got this badge in with a CEF badge lot that I purchased. Thought it was CEF but not in Charlton book. Similar to one for 199th battalion. Background grid 1/4" x 1/4". Its a real nice strike but unfortunately some **SOB** has clipped lugs.

Thanks

Don

Default OFFICERS MEANT TO BE RANGERS

Hi All

Sorry meant to say RANGERS not OFFICERS. Don't think this would be considered an officers badge. So militia period preWWI enlisted mans?

Thanks

Don

The 55th was formed in 1912, but this badge is listed as post First WW in the standard reference. Other sources indicate it was worn during the war. It did raise/contribute to the 199th.

The 55th Regiment started recruiting in September 1914. The badge in the thread was sent for approval in November 1915. And from 1919 the regiment only existed on paper, until their disbandment in 1936.

Default 55th Regiment Irish Canadian Rangers

This is my badge and one collar shown in the badge registry,

I have picked up another with a gilt wash since posting these photos.

The badge and collars are shown in Daniel Mazeas 1920-1950 Canadian Badges.

Default 55TH BADGE

Mazeas M. 87. I have been through that book many times and have never noticed it. I guess I never saw one in real life and just never caught my attention. Style wise it seems to be more CEF period than 1920-1950 militia period.

Thanks for your input.
