Default What is the "P" for?

I have this badge which I initially thought was a cap badge. Now having looked in a book I can see the horse faces to the left on a cap badge not the right as on this. So i assume collar badge. Anyway it has a JR Gaunt London makers stamp on it and a large P underneath the mark. What is the P meant to indicate?

P indicates that it is plated.
