One is, I think, a Crown Prosecution Service lapel badge.

1. Lapel badge QARANC ; Close Protection Service (police guarding royalty) lapel badge ; Allied Ex-Services Association (self-explanatory) ; 6th King Edward's Own Regiment of Cavalry (Indian Army) Sweetheart brooch ; MEZ ??? ; Soldiers Sailors and Air Force Association (services charity) fund raising pin brooch. So, only MEZ to decipher ! David

HI good morning , many thanks for the help so far ,
I know the 5th badge ( top row ) might look abit obvious I was just woundering if the fact that it had a cockerel , a known french symbol and the red cross of Lorriene in the design it may be connected or issued by the French for allied soldiers involved liberating France ? , regards Michael. |

Here's a possible for "MEZ".

Hi
Got one of those Allied Ex-Services Assoc badges a few years back. There was a small piece of "cyclostyled" paper (showing your age if you know this word....) apologising for the lateness in sending the badge. The address for the association was 131 (or 137) Fleet Street. I would have to check on the number but I am 110% certain it was in this Street. I collect this type of badge and would tentatively date it to the 1930s. A wild guess from 12,000 miles away in New Zealand: a newspaper running a column for ex-servicemen and giving out badges to their readers? Sort of Teddy Tail for ex-soldiers? This could/would explain the Fleet Street address... |

The badge with the letters SSAFA is from the Soldiers Sailors and Airmens' Families Association and is probably some sort of fundraising item . The design is by the wellknown wartime cartoonist Fougasse.
