As an aside, I read somewhere that the Kaiser didn't actually denigrate the members of the BEF by saying "This contemptible little army" and that what was actually said was "This contemptibly little army". Whether true or not I still have to find out.

Hi
With a keen interest in lapel badges, I'm interested to know what badges we can see on the left lapels in the first photo. It appears to be small and round. The other photo shows at least two wearing a LARGE round badge on the right lapel. No idea about this one. Actually, as I type this, I realise that I may have answered my own question re the small round badge! Looks as if it could be the WELSH LEGION which is round and would appear to be about this size. I can post a photo of this badge later this week if there is any interest. |

Just seen the earlier pictures of the badge and the small round badge is likely to be the Old Contemptibles/ Wales badge.
I have one with a silver rosette and one with a gilded rosette. The latter rescued from eBay and had clearly been "abused" with five pounds of lead solder by some well-intentioned wearer. All good now.... TIP: If repairing a badge and planning to HARD solder any lugs back, you must remove all traces of lead solder (bronze brush in pendant drill, detergent, etc.) before attempting a repair. Failure to do this will result in a poor joint and/ or the lead solder will eat into the badge. |
