Final Yeomanry Lot
The last of a batch of Yeomanry badges I acquired has finally arrived... there is one badge that looks off to me but I'd like the Forums opinion on the lot... Thanks in advance... Jim

Here you go Jim, all look good to me except the Dorset I would need to see that one in the hand.

What are the pointers to look out for on the fake(s)? Surely there is more than one die?
Just in case I come across one........... Cheers, Andy |

Speaking as a complete novice on Yeomanry badges, I would go for the LIY badge in the first post. The one shown by Griff looks awful, especially the RHS of the crown.
Again I can't back up my views just my opinion. Tony.

Jim,
Does the LIY have footed loops (dustbin lids)? |

LIY has deep horizontal hatching..... unblemished. The badge will only be found with loops E/W. The value between the repro' and the real thing is about £200.
Gilding metal post 1908 only..... "I" removed by manufacturer. Stop gap cap badge until KK1422. White metal Cap badge.... White metal collar badge....

I'll post some close up pictures of just this badge so the forum has it for reference. The first stand out difference I noticed when compared to Griff's badge was the lack of horizontal lines inside the LIY... Not sure of the measuring points but my badge comes in at approx 44mm both ways... thanks for the info Jim

Thanks Griff
A comparison of the good and the fake would be useful. So if you can get a close up of yours Jim, that would be great. Are there many die variants of the LIY badge Griff? I notice the one with the "I" removed appears to be from the same die as the LIY you show. Cheers, Andy |

Andy
The one that Jim has is the only repro that I have seen for the LIY wreath badge.... basically if the LIY does not have deep grooved horizontal hatching in it.... then its a duffer ...no ifs or buts The "I" was removed by the factory in the gilding metal (1908-10)..... and if you see the same in the genuine white metal it was done by the Yeomanry. You will find the Wm. collar badges like this as well (worn as cap badges or sweethearts/Pin&Clasp). Jim The Derby Yeo looks good for a WW2 beret badge.
