Not a good start to the day for you Spencer, another duff one i'm afraid.
The feathers are too dumpy and i have only seen originals with 3 lugs and a braze hole behind the Coronet. Cheers Malc Last edited by Malcolm Davey; 27-03-08 at 12:12 PM. |

Malcs right Spenc, this is the early version of the badge Victorian era if memory serves so back to the old lug slider debate they should only have lugs from that era... and a braze hole is again the rule. If you study the feathers you'll see dumpy ones like that on lots of other restrike ones like Welsh Reg etc - steer clear of them. You should be looking for some nice fine flowing feathers which are finely cut out if you get my meaning. The photo in later editions of Gaylor shows it quite well. Cheers, Luke |

The very same feathers are found on C&D Yeo, Welsh, Welch, 10 Hussars etc etc. They all come from the same die and sold by at least one company (who I shan't name in public as it migth encourage the unscrupulous to order some) and then resold by a number of crooked dealers. As far as I can tell they have never been found on a gneuine badge and should be avoided like the plague. These are the same badges found with the fake JRGaunt.London marks.

Here's another -bit closer to the correct pattern, three lugs but no brazing hole, I have assumed this is an older restrike/ copy.
This should anyway be a rare badge due to a short number of years in use, although at least 1,300 12th lancers served in the Boer war so maybe not excessively so. ( anyone got the real thing??)
