Default RAF Canadian? Officer Cap Badge

Hello Gents,
Opinions please on this recently acquired item. I’ve found little reference to it apart from E Medals who sold a near identical one in 2007. They described I as a bronze WW1 Canadian made RAF Officers Cap Badge, is this correct? It’s bronze, the eagle faces left instead of the usual right and old. I’m adverse to removing the back plate for markings as the clasps are very weak. Any thoughts?

Default Canadian made RAF officer cap badge

Hi,

Although I cannot help you with a positive identification it was suggested to me, previously, that this may be RAF WWI Canada related.

It is interesting how 'emedals' described it as in their 2007 sale you mention.

I too have one. Mine has a additional lug fitting to the rear.

Regards,

Graham

Default RAF/Canadian Officer Badge

Thanks Graham for your prompt reply. Just to muddy the waters E Medals also posted the same badge stating it was a South African Air Force Officer item! In addition, it has a similar bronze only left facing eagle and crown officer badge marked ‘Rosenthal Toronto’ which is unsold. I think some cold careful surgery is required on the backplate to find some markings. A photo would be handy of either a Canadian or British airman wearing it.
Cheers
Richard

I don't believe this is South African, not evidence to show that any badges like this were ever worn by SAAF members.
Cheers,
Alex

Default RAF Canadian Officer Badge

Forensic analysis of the back via a pair of scissors revealed no markings. I did find a quote from a RCAF website stating that two WW1 squadrons were sent to England, the RFC supplied the aircraft and ground equipment but uniforms had to be supplied from Canada perhaps this would explain this badge.
