Hi Jonathan
These are nice badges, are they worn on the pork pie hat? And are they all worn with the bugle horn badge? Chris |

I remember I have read somewhere that grenadier companies wore the grenade instead of the bugle.
I also understand that these badges were used 1858-1874 (together with the pork pie/pillbox cap). It is possible that during the first years of the usage there still were grenadier companies in the militia regiments. I have them also seen pictures combined with a (Victorian) crown on the internet. BTW, I have found this one: https://www.lot-art.com/auction-lots...8.12.21-bosley. I do not know if that was the normal combination for this regiment, for all six West Yorkshire Militia Regiments, or if this is a made up combination.

Good afternoon Chris.
Generally most Welsh Militia scrolls were worn on a (peakless) forage hat with a bugle above the scroll as most were rifle volunteers. The later (as called) pill box hat would have brass numerals (as below). Ta Jonathan DSC09500.JPGDSC09501.JPG DSC09509.JPGDSC09511.JPG DSC09502.JPGDSC09505.JPG DSC09507.JPGDSC09508.JPG |

Militia and Rifle Volunteers are definitely not the same.
