1st KING'S DRAGOON GUARDS
I have had this one in my collection for quite sometime . Close to the sword on the rear is the mark SILVER . Heavy badge but I haven't seen an original to judge if it is Genuine . Anyone out there with a real one ?

This is a Taxicar fake. Notice the same raised shield and poor rear detal and lugs on the scroll.

Sorry to say!
Hi Spencer
Welcome to the fold!! I am sorry to be the bearer of very bad news but that badge is an absolute howler! The Officers of the KDG never wore the Victorian badge in silver. Officer's badges were either Gilt or OSD Bz and the guys wore GM. There were two dies used to produce this pre 1915 badge and both were issued. They had subtle differences and i will start another thread to illustrate them. I have actually seen this badge at a badge fair in Brecon and couldnt believe my eyes! The die used to produce this fake is also used to produce GM copies too. The distinguishing features of this fake are the pronounced shield and the loop fixings mounted on the scroll. The actual badges had a much flatter shield and the loops were mounted on the back of the body of the badge. I have a number of these badges and will put one or two pics up for comparison. |
