Default NEWEST ADDITION TO MY DRAGOON HELMET COLLECTION #3, 2023

Hello fellow collectors,

I just received in the mail, the newest addition to my dragoon helmet collection. In this case a fine example of the 1860 pattern leather dragoon helmet as worn by Prince Albert’s Own Leicestershire Yeomanry Cavalry from 1860 through approximately 1873 when the regiment reverted to a busby and hussar style uniform. The helmet was first worn with a black plume from circa 1860 to 1868-70 when the plume was changed to white and worn till the change in uniform in 1873. This pattern helmet was worn experimentally by two regular army cavalry regiments but ultimately rejected by regular army though a number of yeomanry regiments took it into wear, the Leicestershire Yeomanry being one. It is in amazing condition and state of preservation. The helmet was acquired from the estate of the late Mr. John Taylor of Old Aylestone, Leicester. As I’m sure many of you here on the Forum know, Mr. Taylor collected the Leicester Regiment for over 50 years and assembled a spectacular museum worthy collection.

Regards,

David

David, a truly awesome addition. If it's leather then it has been well taken care of.

Was it shipped Royal Mail or some other way?

Hi Terry,

Thank you, yes, it is leather and in extremely great condition! When it arrived though, I did clean up the skull with a high-quality leather cleaner and conditioner to prevent the leather from further drying out. The helmet was shipped via Parcelforce from the UK on 31 January and delivered to me here in the US on 10 February. I do have a helmet plate coming from the UK via Royal Mail... was posted on 6 February and according to Royal Mail tracking departed the UK on 8 February... so, despite the ongoing problems the Royal Mail might be experiencing, that item seems to be moving along!

Regards,

David

Hello Jerry!

Thank you so much! I was pretty nervous as I unpacked the helmet when it arrived despite the seller's assurance of its good quality/condition. I am really please with its condition, completeness and appearance, the leather and fitting just superb. I appreciate you looking and kind comment!

Regards,

David

What must I say. Wow again. And indeed the leather survived amazingly.
