Default RBL QVC with slider

Hi All,

can anyone help with this badge. I have seen other posts regarding similar badges stating that RBL bandsmen or banner men may have worn this badge, but the others I have seen are lugged. Can someone point me in the direction of who has an album showing similar badges please...

Cheers in advance, Mark

Here is one I recently got , previously read that 'B' mark indicated bandsman. Have also seen others with no markings , there is also a silver variation in Phil's album.

Prices vary a lot , in June I saw a lugged version with an asking price of £49.99 + postage , the next day I picked up a better one for £6.00 (including postage).

There have been a couple of lugged ones recently for about £20.00 but the condition of the enamel badges was terrible.

Just had a look through Phil's album - some lovely badges in there.I hope this doesn't lead me off on yet another collecting path ! I take it the RBL volunteer police badge must be very rare.As the backs of the badges aren't shown, is the police one marked ' V.B.' ?

The British Legion Volunteer Police Force (BLVPF) consisted of 1200 men and was only 'active' for 10 days.

The badge is slightly different to the bandsman/attendants ones in that the enamel badge is larger , the slider is narrower (longer +tapered ?). The ones I have seen have no special markings on the back .

There is one (front +back view) on page 3 of Phil's album.

I have a BLVPF 'style' badge on its way to me at the moment , will post pics when it arrives. I use the term 'style' as , without provenance there is no way of knowing it was worn by the BLVPF or simply extras that were produced and later used by other groups.

My BLVPF (style) badge arrived today , has larger enamel badge , narrow slider which appears to taper (slightly) but doesn't seem any longer than on bandmans badge.

One other difference , that I hadn't noticed before , is that the enamel part is held on at 2 points where bandsman/standard bearer ones are secured at 5 points.

What do others think ?

Wanted another basic Bandsman/Standard Bearer badge for a 'project' , the £49.99 lugged one is still available (has low number H56) then spotted this lugged one which I got (again) for £6.00 and that included postage.

So , if you are looking for badges to simply display (rather than specific letters/numbers) there are still bargains out there.

Question Unusual

Spotted this badge for sale and wondered if it was a 'variation' that I'd not seen before .

QVC backplate with long/tapered slider (similar to BLVPF) and with two hole for attaching 'front piece'. The two hole attachment was used for the large (26mm) British Legion badges then, after 1945 , when the smaller (20mm) badge was introduced five hole attachments were used.

A closer inspection shows that the center of a large BL badge has been attached to the backplate to make this look like a different/rare badge.

But why ?

Possibly the enamel section was badly damaged or simply an attempt to 'create' a rare/unusual badge. I don't think this is an old/early 'modification' as there are scratch marks around one of the holes showing that front piece has been removed and reattached.

NB. Asking price was £32.00 but a 'seller offer' of £24.00 was available .

I declined !

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. I suspect it is as you suggested, made to deceive.
