It could be 17th Infantry Loyal Regiment ( Indian Army ) - they wore a brass crescent in their pagri and turban. Pre 1921. Tim

Yes, but the 17th has a 'slimmer' crescent. This is quite broad..

One of the 'eastern' fraternal organizations? A Shriner's band member's emblem for his fez or some such? I'm reaching a bit, but there are some weird and wonderful outfits out there.
