Exactly !
I know I mentioned this in earlier posts to this thread BUT AGAIN that is precisely why I measure my sliders as in eg slider 35/7, or slider 40/17 which is the full length of the slider (the 35 or the 40/) and the length it protrudes below the bottom of the badge (the /7 or the 17) which shows very clearly when they are 'long'. These two examples are taken only from Pattern 4362A/1896 KLR OR cap badges. They also appear on King's Regt Patt 10042/1926 and on various TF / TA badges Incidentally, the sliders attached to Glengarry badges (ie HPCs) in 1903 are about 60/16 !!! |

I see what you mean by the leaf (in hand) pattern. What I will say though, is that this pattern of badge (pattern no. 4554, sealed 1897), worn between 1898 and 1937 has many variants. However, one thing that they all have in common is that the olive sprig that britannia is holding will ALWAYS have five leaves. What you are seeing here, is a badly cut out badge resulting in a slightly "different leaf pattern". So, please believe me when I say that they both come from the same die.

It is probably easier to see when you have both badges in hand I guess.

Hello?
45mm from bend to bottom of shank. Looks to be unused, no apologies for poor photography, will probably be sold very soon. Last edited by Nozzer; 17-02-18 at 10:20 PM. |

Tony,
I dont class that as a 'long slider' badge. The length to be considered is that which extends beyond the base of the badge. See my post above on 9.9.2017. regards

I think my brain just had some kind of seizure and died. Its a shame the same rule doesn't apply to anatomy. I'd have it put on my ankle. Thanks Andy, hope it wont be too long before I can make up for the Chelmsford incident.
