General List Badge in Anodised Aluminium - Any Ideas Please
Hello All
About 2 years ago I bought a small collection of anodised aluminium badges and amongst the badges were 2 king's crown badges, a bandmaster's badge and what appears to be a General List cap badge. They are very well made but I would appreciate opinions on them. Does anyone know what they are, either genuine very early issue or are they modern reproductions. Many thanks in advance Paddy |

If it's any help K/C General Service Corps ( General List ) is not shown in the book Collecting Anodised Cap Badges by Peter Taylor only Q/C version, bandsman badge not shown at all as probably more a trade/proficiency badge than cap badge.

Paddy, as a long time anodised collector, I have never come across either. Obviously early with the Kings crown. On balance, the general list is likely to be a W.O.1 rank badge - happy to be corrected.
Unfortunately Peters book does carry some errors, however remains a very good instant reference on certain levels. There is a Queens crown version on a slider worn more recently by army recruits at Harrogate for a period. You may well have a couple of rare examples there Paddy. Now watch, the other examples that roll in . . . All the very best gent's Bess |

Am i missing something here but isnt the Royal Arms just a Warrant Officer Class 1 arm badge and the other a bandsmans/Bandmaster rank badge?

Paddy,
I have been collecting for nearly 60 years and, like Bess, have never seen either badge in anodised with King's Crown. So on balance they are either very, very rare or perhaps trial patterns. If reproduction/suspect - then there would be more about? Tim

Interestingly, bandsman qualification badges with Queens crown - in their various sizes, shades and colours - have lugs North & South to sit on the sleeve neater.
These are East & West . . . |

Many thanks for your comments. When I first got the badges I showed them to Chris Marsh and he was happy that the construction of the badges looked genuine but he was unsure what they were. The reasons I mentioned or associated the badge with the General List and not a WO1's arm badge are the design and size of the badge is so similar to the GL badge and the size is so much bigger than a WO1's arm badge (I have added a picture below of all 3 of those badges side by side to show the size). I think they are very early pattern anodised arm badges and I guess they are pretty rare as I have never seen them on sale before and it doesn't seem like anyone else has. Paddy |

Now you show it in context it is indeed larger than a WO1 rank badge.
It therefore must be the cap badge of the General Service Corps, not the earlier General List which is incorrectly repeated in this thread. regards
