Default Mid Wales Police

At an Antique Fair this morning there was a plastic bag full of Mid Wales Police buttons ( kings crown and QE2 crown ) and some chromed shoulder titles comprises just the initials " M.W ".

I cannot recall hearing of the Mid Wales Police before and out of curiosity I googled the name and no results were found.

Can anyone tell me anything about the Force please.

Thanks

P.B.

Peter,

They were formed on 1st April 1948 by an amalgamation of the police forces of Breconshire, Montgomeryshire and Radnorshire. They were abolished on 1st April 1968 and became part of the Dyfed-Powys Constabulary. Their HQ was in Newtown, Montgomeryshire. Their initial strength was 132 and their final strength was 235.

Hope this is helpful.

Dave.
