Bi metal Royal Artillery Grenade Badges -collar like
I've put these aside over the years due to lack of clarity as to what they are. Officers' FS Cap badges I thought- but searching the forum I see we have them identified to a specific RA unit. Any opinions? period?
I was going to add them to the database, but it would be handy to have some confidence as to what they are first! Anyway, two have silver plated scrolls, probably gilt grenades One by Ludlow, one by Gaunt, other unmarked. If anybody wants one £12 to a uk address. I'll keep one- I don't mind which, thus two available.

Very nice Mike. I can see the scroll looks overlaid on the RH one, centre appears tagged maybe. What are they like on the back?

Hello Mike, I believe these are Canadian . I have similar collars for the Canadian Engineers.

I have read somewhere that a Territorial RA Regiment wore them as collars, all ranks that is.
And somewhere I've read it was worn by the RA officers in Airbourne RA units in WW2, I will endeavour to dig that info out. I also have one, and looked it up. Chris |

Looks like you've pinned it down Tony. Thread did not feature in my search for some reason. I obviously trust 54bty in these matters! (edit: I was probably searching for bi-metal rather than silver and gilt)

The large one is marked FIRMIN LONDON & the other no maker. Both have the Ubique scroll riveted.

Hi Mike, I believe that they were not for a specific unit, but worn by different units in the commonwealth. I know that the 3rd Transvaal Scottish(7 Medium Regiment) wore them in the 1950's. They were the only South Africans to wear them. Regards Andrew

Was the b/m badge a collar for 3TS or did they wear it with a tartan backing on the Tam o' Shanter? Cheers, Alex |
