Default Hertfordshire Regiment Badge - Opinions Please

Hello all,

I have been directed here from the Great War Foum for help with a badge query I have. I have been a collector of all things WW1, including badges and buttons, but have recently veered away from cap badges owing to the proliferation of fakes and restrikes (use whichever phrase you prefer!).

I would very much appreciate members' opinions on the Hertfordshire Regiment badge below. To me it seems fairly legitimate and shows polishing wear consistent with honest wear and use. However, I am not au fait with the signs to look for with a dodgy badge so would really appreciate any thoughts at all on this one.

Thanks in advance and best wishes,

Simon

Gents,

Thank you so much for your prompt replies and their positive nature! I had a good feel about this badge given the wear and age (the rounding to the crown is a nice sign) but have become increasingly suspicious of cap badges.

Is it at all possible to hazard a guess as to the period this may date from. I know the design is the type worn 1914-1918 and was again worn by some (territorial?) units in the Second World War, but I wondered whether the design might hint at a period?

I would love to know your thoughts on some of my other badges. I'll try to start a new thread about them at som stage.

Best wishes,

Simon
