Cameron highlanders
Gents, found amongst some odds and sods recently was the attached. It has the appearance of being connected to the Cameron Highlanders. Any confirmations etc, welcome chaps.

Thanks Peter. The slider threw me off of pouches etc.

The slider is unusual for a Sporran badge. Very different from the cap badge type.

Unless I'm remembering wrong, this badge was also used as a glengarry badge with the numerals '79' above. I suspect that this was maybe made with a slider as a pugarree badge rather than for a sporran badge?

From what I recall K&K show a similar but more "delicate" badge for the glengarry.
I'll dig the book out. |

K&K's illustration from the Glengarry badges 1874-1881 section and the two similar badges that I have.
The slightly smaller badge on the left is of a crisper w/m than the other and similar to the one K&K show although from a different die. It's been brooched and presumably had w/e lug fittings, the other badge is more similar to the one shown in post no. 1(from the same die?) and has a short, pierced slider fitting. I'm unsure as to whether the smaller badge is a glengarry. Last edited by leigh kitchen; 17-03-20 at 08:05 AM. |

That short, pierced blade was the sporran badge fitting.

Yes, and it's a similar badge to that in post no. 1.
The smaller badge I show is similar to the Glengarry shown in K&K but I'm not sure if the one I have is a Glengarry. |
