Coldstream Guards - Pith Helmet Badge?
Good day
Is this a pith helmet badge or similar? It is approx 8.7 cms tall but lugs look rather short. Also a nice bed plate (is that what they are called?), stamped F Narborough Birmingham on the reverse Thanks James |

Im not keen on the Pith Helmet badge, looks too new to me. See what others say though. Nice bed plate though.

Very nice, they both look good to me.
Given that they are probably related PLEASE don't separate them !! |

Is the badge not an O/Rs valise badge rather than a pith helmet badge?
Cheers, Alex |

The badge is not a valise badge as the fittings are wrong. I have seen pics of Coldstreamers wearing this large badge on sunhelmets but it was my understanding that such badges would usualy be a pagri type with a slider?

Coldstream pagri
A lovely badge, one of the first badges I was given in the early 1950's which I still have.
As far as I'm aware they all had loops, I have never seen one with a slider. Rob |

The FSH went out of use in WW2. Post war it was berets and floppy hats.

Andy,
Have to agree with you, if this was the property of an ex Guardsman it would surely be stamped with his Name, Rank and Number unless of course he decided to acquire a souvenir of his Service from the Stores. Not saying this is anything to go by but I personally have never seen a Coldstream Bed Plate of that construction either. Regards Simon. |

The older valise badges had screw posts but I thought the newer ones were lugged?

Could you show an older example with screw post please, I have never seen one, you would normally expect four copper lugs, often subsequently removed and replaced by the square, brass, fitting which the leather strap went through.

Pagri and two valise stars.
The pagri measures about 85 X 68 mm, the valise star measures about 105 X 80mm. |
