Smile Sandcast Beds & Herts cap badge

A recently acquired badge, a sandcast Beds & Herts made in India, by a manufacturer that I have never heard of before.

I should add the maker is:- G.KARANJEE&SONS ALIGARH.U.P.

I have a 1926 Pattern King's Regt badge with slider - crude two piece.
I know that this company was producing British badges in the 2nd WW period.

Default Sandcast badges

It probably is a coincidence, but 1st Beds and Herts along with 1st Kings were Chindits and 1st Battalion Essex Regiment were trained as Chindits although served at Kohima, all units served where cast locally made badges were no doubt issued.

Great badge Rob.

The only sandcast version of this badge that I have owned is the one shown below. I passed it on to Phil some time back and this is the only image I have now. Of course the MM is different to yours.

Cool W/M sandcast

Nozzer, whereas the sandcast you show is made in brass, mine is cast in a white metal more like the diestruck Beds and Herts.

My recollection was that it was actually dirty white metal and not brass, but as I don't have the badge anymore, perhaps Phil can confirm. Why would it be made in brass, it doesn't make sense? Unless it was originally plated which has worn away.

Of course you may well be correct in saying dirty white metal, to my eyes it looked brass, but it is only a screen image.

Its a brass badge with a worn out white metal coating on it, most likely a light nickel plate.

Interesting - to my eye the badge in post no. 1 is an unequivocal white metal colour with no trace of gold colouring.

Ah, I wondered, but I wasn't sure and thought I'd post anyway.
