Default Ebay Commando Fakes

Quite a few commando fakes surfacing at the moment, which are a little more convincing than some you see. These are definite fakes to be avoided:

cheers

A bit more convincing. The color of the No 10 is off a little, otherwise they will surely fool some. The printed title is the first I have seen. Thanks for posting

The word "Used" appears, by who, one wonders?

This pattern of fakes seems to be available in 2, 3 and 12. All are actually two colours printed on white synthetic cloth which when it wears out comes through and glows under a UV light. The original red on blue (black) titles were all a single colour printed on red canvas and therefore have red backs (see the 9 in my trades album). The 12 is a fantasy title and wasn't printed in these colours
Unfortunately these appear in Mr Taylor's book.
cheers
Paul

Thanks Paul

I looked at those and passed, they don't have the same embroidery and or printed ordnance issued as original manufactured.

10 Cdo,thicker "spaghetti" embroidered thread is more "Paki" made, 4 Cdo again incorrect weave, could be made anywhere, I'm picking that will glow.

2 Cdo as you say should be red backed. Also came across similar that was being sold for 75 GBP,mind you it did have a lot of nice pin holes and looked well worn.

Phill

Spot on with your observations Phil
As I understand it there was only ever one commando title that had a black back, which was a 2 piece contruction like conventional WW2 printed titles, such as this example:
http://www.brittonsbadges.co.uk/viewphoto.php?x=0

A pair of the 12s has surfaced but are being correctly descrided as repro:

Some of these are atrocious - but we have seen some very convincing printed ones.
As Paul says there is only one known original 'Commando unit' printed with black back - that is the small version of 'COMMANDO'. Which comes in both red and black back. No original 'unit numbered' printed titles have been found with a black back.
Mike
Paul - sorry but your first link to Steve's site does not work for me, I assume this is what you were pointing out though.
Ah - Just tried again and opened it ... I see it is the same as I am saying too.

From a seller called 'Old Collectables' - shows age is relative!
