Question Falklands Island Defence Force

This Falklands Island Defence Force item has me wondering as to whether it's an original or a fake, diecast in alloy with two "prongs" at the back it measures 25mm deep x 20mm wide.

Thoughts and help appreciated.

Rob

Cool FIDR

Jerry, thanks for the reply, it's a strange looking item which is why I put it up for verification as to it's authenticity, possibly made as a souvenir but for whom?

I don't think the Falklands has the footfall that the Costa Del Sol has . . !

No but back in 1982 there were a lot of Spanish speaking "TOURIST'S" visiting

Hi Rob,
Not an expert or have historical knowledge of the badge but this badge appears to be WM as against the 'brown' metal used. I do have one somewhere, at the time they were unfortunately scarce, so i could only get one with broken lugs. Will see if i can dig it out, i think the ceremonial ones were 'gilt' covered type. Regards Mark

Hi Rob,
Just checked the site for FIDF, the one i have is the one shown on the link in this thread, shown on the beret. Bronzed badge, worn by all ranks, the 'shiny' one worn on ceremonials. Phew, saved me a few hours looking through boxes! Regards

There was a guy in the Southampton area (I think) who was knocking these out on eBay. He was selling them as repros. I have several slightly differently made variations (not solid backed) which they have used over the years none of which resemble your version.

Default FIDF

Many thanks to all forum members who have replied, I am a little unsure as to what this badge is/was and to it's authenticity hence my putting it up for verification.

As to whether it's a dud or not I will keep intact until further information is received.

Regards Rob

Just curious. What is the difference between the upper most one and the rest. Is that design an earlier date? And when yes, when was the switchover?

Sorry I disturbed you.

I visited the thread linked to above. @revdougal posts there:

This badge is thus said to be "c.1947/9 to 1965/6".

Henk,

No problem my friend. Yes, I believe the information you quote is correct.
