My collection of Modern 'Cloth Trade, Qualification & Appointment Badges'.

I have made a mistake labelling 2nd & 6th Gurkhas. Will amend in due course.

As always, comments welcome.

Chris, very nice collection. Not sure if it is still the same but I somehow managed to obtain a Distinguished Pass on the Skill at Arms phase of the Infantry Section Commanders Course at Aldershot before going on to Stage Two at Brecon. As a mark of this distinguished pass I was given a small version of the crossed rifles badge to be worn above the Lance Sergeants Chevrons at the end of the course by the SASC Staff. Needless to say it was very much frowned upon in the Guards at the time and I was informed quite firmly that it was not to be worn. Another course member, I think from the Fusiliers also received one and he had it stitched in place straight away.

Just wondered if they are still issued and if the standard crossed rifles badge you show is indeed this version?

Regards Simon.

Default TRADE BADGES

CAM, nice collection,
Here are some of mine attached to the posters "All the signs of a specialist 1" and "2"
I am missing the 6th, 7th & 10th Gurkha piper badge-black on green from poster 1.
I have other trade badges but they are all Royal Engineer related.

Many moons ago I was put in touch with the PRI of the DWR and asked if I could buy a complete set of their trade badges at cost plus a top-up donation. They promptly sent me a complete set, but there was no medic badge.

Equally, despite its appearance on the poster a very well placed source told me that the Royal Irish Regimental Medical Assistant does not exist; the one on the poster was a prototype. I have never seen one for sale. I have been looking for one for over thirty years.

That said, I have an ATO badge in WRAC colours. The tale I was told by the ATO who gave it to me was that a small batch was made in anticipation of the first course with WRAC contenders - all of whom, he said, failed. This could be complete hogwash.. but I have one.

I agree with Staffsyeoman that the Royal Irish Rangers Regimental Medical Assistant badge in piper green on black does not exist.

Shown below is board of Ammunition Technician and Ammunition Technical Officer badges from my collection including examples in WRAC colours for No1 and No2 Dress.
