5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards
Good evening,
I have a cap without backing and a beret with a strange giant one. Would you have the exact shape of the backing for this regiment ? Laurent |

5DG Green. (the green horse nickname for the 5DG) for the same reason as the green trousers / overalls. At the time the wearers whouldnt have worn a backing that big in reality.

Thank you John for the link. I think I am going to cut the strange large backing in order to have a correct one for the cap

Hi Laurent, That's my old regiment, if you cut the large one down (never seen one that big) leave a 5mm overlap and leave it pointy shaped at the bottom. I have seen the backing sometimes cut flat however that is not how we wore it. regards John

Thank you again John for these precious details. Your former regiment's cap is one of my favourite in my collection. Nice colours.

5th RIDG Backing
No 6 shows the OR's badge backing, and No 2 the officers ( No 3 is the officer's beret badge). From Dress Distinctions of the 5th RIDG by B W Cox.
